The Freelander 2 is powered by a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder  turbodiesel engine that uses common rail diesel technology which aids refinement and economy while the Variable Nozzle turbocharger helps to deliver exceptional torque

The engine in Freelander 2 is mounted transversely, as opposed to longitudinally in other competition vehicles.
